AT&T Inc. may have figured out a solution for those people who have a habit of either constantly losing their mobile phones, dropping them or doing things like leaving them in their pants during the wash.
San Antonio-based AT&T (NYSE: T) has created a back-up data application, called AT&T Mobile Backup, that gives wireless customers the ability to store, update and access contact information from their phones.
This application eliminates the need to spend hours re-entering contact information into a new or replacement phone.
Through this monthly service, contact information is stored automatically via a wireless connection to the AT&T Mobile Backup Web site (mobilebackup.att.com). Information can also be imported from Microsoft Outlook, Yahoo! and AOL.
AT&T Mobile Backup will be compatible with six Motorola handsets, including the popular RAZR phone. The wireless communications company is charging customers $1.99 a month to use the added service. AT&T Mobile Backup is powered by Nashville wireless technology company Asurion.
"Most people have contact information on their wireless devices that they do not have stored anywhere else," says Carlton Hill, vice president of voice products and devices for AT&T's wireless unit. "Because of this, we are excited to offer a secure back-up option to protect this important information."
AT&T is the nation's largest wireless company with 63.7 million subscribers as of June 30, 2007.
