SINGAPORE 16 NOVEMBER 06 - Asurion Asia Pacific, leading provider of mobile protection services for the wireless telecommunications industry, is pleased to announce the launch of a new and enhanced Asurion Handset Protection Service that features the first-of-its kind data backup solution, Asurion Databackup, for all mobile users in Taiwan. Asurion can now protect both the phone and the valuable data and digital media it holds, offering a complete mobile protection solution for its customers.
The cell phone is no longer about just voice communication. There is a growing reliance on the mobile phone to store information like contacts, SMS, photos and videos. As phones offer more functionality, the data that they store grows more important. This makes it even more critical to prevent the loss of irreplaceable data. According to research, 7 out of 10 people in Taiwan have experienced handset loss, theft or damage and more than 80% of mobile users in Taiwan express a need for data backup.
Asurion Databackup is the first solution in Taiwan that can provide automatic, over-the-air backup, of not just the contacts but all of the subscriber’s valuable digital media such as SMS, photos and videos, to a secured server. With Asurion Databackup, mobile users no longer worry about losing any important information and can have web access to their mobile data even when their phone is not with them. Most importantly, if the subscriber loses, damages, or changes their phone; the data on the previous phone is still available to them and can be reinstalled onto their new phone.
Additionally, the new Asurion Handset Protection Service now cover handset, loss, theft and damages for up to NT$35,000 (approximately US$1000) from NT$8000 (approximately US$250) previously, to provide a more comprehensive coverage of all phones in the market and a lower deductible at 25% (previously 35%) to offer a more compelling program to subscribers. This program is now available to all mobile users in Taiwan.“As a first for Asurion in Asia Pacific, Taiwan marks the first market that we have launched data backup and this is a significant milestone for the company. The introduction of data backup in Taiwan is the result of extensive market research and focus groups, which revealed a positive customer perception towards data backup and a strong market demand for such a service. We are confident in the growth potential of our handset protection service in Taiwan, particularly with the new enhanced program we have just launched. Asurion will continue to evaluate and introduce services that can extend our value proposition and offer a more complete mobile protection solution,” said Daniel Currie, President and CEO, Asurion Asia Pacific.
Today’s phones suffer from significant storage limitations, hence using a phone as powerful lifestyle tool requires a storage extension. Asurion provides up to 25MB of storage space, allowing the user to free up the limited space on their phone for more contacts, SMS, photos and videos. Asurion Databackup is accessible to any subscriber, no matter what phone they use through a multi-application solution (Symbian, Java and SMS). The application is invisible and automatically backs up data with or without any user intervention.
The new and enhanced Asurion Handset Protection Service is available to mobile users that purchased a new phone at a monthly subscription fee of NT$149 (approximately US$4). Customers can sign up at all FET retail stores and v@ss stores or call the toll-free Asurion Customer Service Hotline: 0809-006333 within seven days of their new phone purchase.
